Synopsis

1879. The British authorities plan to conquer the Zulu Kingdom, which they expect to defeat militarily with ease. But a surprise defeat is inflicted on their army at the Battle of Isandhlwana. The meticulous and critical reconstruction of a catastrophe, featuring breathtaking battle scenes.

Biography

Douglas Hickox (1929-1988)

Rated as an effective second unit director, Douglas Hickox started his directing career in 1959 with Behemoth the Sea Monster. The success of Sitting Target (1972) and Theater of Blood (1973) propelled him to Hollywood where he directed John Wayne in Brannigan (1975). He then went on to make the remarkable historical film Zulu Dawn (1979).
