Synopsis

A chronicle of France at the time of the Regency. While the liberal Philippe d'Orléans wears himself out at galant suppers, revolt rumbles in Brittany and bankruptcy threatens the kingdom's finances. Tavernier reinvents the historical film in a fresco full of humour, verve and modernity.
