During the Russian Civil War, a Red Army detachment captures an enemy officer. After a storm, he finds himself on a deserted island in the Aral Sea with the unit's only woman, Maryutka, who has a reputation as a first-class shot. Left to themselves, they are prey to feelings as violent as they are contradictory.
